Bernard Belle born November 12th, 1964 was a Grammy award-winning musician, composer and producer who passed away on June 23rd, 2022. He was a close family friend to Power 2 Inspire founders, Ray and Vivian Chew. In addition, the Chew’s have a close relationship with Bernard’s sister, Grammy award-winning recording artist, Regina Belle and his son Tyrell Belle, who is a part of the Power 2 Inspire Internship/Mentorship team.
Bernard was a multi-instrumentalist - pianist, guitarist, drummer, vocalist and most notably known as a prolific bassist. Bernard has received multiple Grammy awards, American Music Awards, Billboard Awards, Stellar Gospel Music Awards as well as ASCAP and BMI awards for his music as a songwriter and producer. One of his most accomplished hits is Michael Jackson’s “Remember the Time” which achieved multi-platinum status. He also wrote and produced hits for Bobby Brown, Whitney Houston, Keith Sweat, Boy George, Patti LaBelle, Al B. Sure!, Jaheim and groups The Winans, Guy, Hi-Five and Today. His loving relationship with his sister Regina produced several hits for her as well.
Under the musical direction of Ray Chew, he was a recurring bassist on BET’s gospel shows “Sunday’s Best” and “The Celebration of Gospel”. He also performed with Gospel legends Donnie McClurkin, Shirley Caesar, Richard Smallwood, John P. Kee, Marvin Sapp, Fred Hammond, Yolanda Adams, Tye Tribbett, Mary Mary, Kirk Franklin, Donald Lawrence, Smokie Norful, Hezekiah Walker and BeBe & CeCe Winans.
Bernard always championed and supported the next generation of music creators. Through the newly established Bernard Belle Scholarship Fund, his legacy will live on forever.
